ATU Local 113 members remain in legal strike position
NEWMARKET- The Regional Municipality of York advises residents that YRT/Viva services continue to run on its normal schedule while Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 113 members continue to negotiate a contract with Veolia Transportation Services Canada. ATU Local 113 remains in a legal strike position against Veolia Transportation.
On February 16, ATU Local 113 members voted against a tentative settlement reached between Veolia Transportation and Amalgamated Transit Union Local 113 last Sunday evening.
The two parties will return to the bargaining table to continue negotiations. If negotiations are not successful, ATU Local 113 members may invoke their right to strike as early as Monday, February 21 at 12:01 a.m.
Veolia Transportation is one of four private contractors that provide transit services for York Region Transit (YRT)/Viva. All YRT/Viva services continues to operate on regular schedules.
Approximately 214 unionized Veolia operators and mechanics and 131 YRT vehicles provide service to nearly 28,000 daily weekday riders in YRT’s Southwest Division.
York Region is hopeful that the two parties will reach an agreement without a strike, but advises residents to visit the YRT/Viva website at www.yrt.ca
or call the Customer Service Centre at 1-866-MOVE-YRT (1-866-668-3978) to stay informed.
