York Region staff bring holiday joy to those in need

Community and Health Services department annual food and toy drive benefits local agencies
NEWMARKET – In the spirit of the holiday season, staff from The Regional Municipality of York are providing holiday gifts, toys and non-perishable food items to community agencies across the Region.
 
York Region Community and Health Services staff raised approximately $3,700 through their Annual Spirit of Christmas Drive this year. Additional toys and food were also donated.
 
Media are invited to join paramedics from York Region Emergency Medical Services (EMS) when they deliver some of the gifts and non-perishable food items.

BACKGROUND:
 
• Contributions were used to purchase food, clothing, household items and toys from wish lists submitted on behalf of Rose of Sharon Services for Young Mothers, Yellow Brick House, Salvation Army Christmas Sponsorship Program and the Blue Door Shelters – Youth Shelter & Leeder Place
 
• The Annual Spirit of Christmas Drive was initiated by York Region EMS in 2001 and expanded across the Community and Health Services department to include all staff in 2009
