“This represents the highest amount ever raised by York Region and is an incredible achievement that all our employees can be proud of,” said York Region Chairman and CEO Bill Fisch.  “We raised our fundraising goal by $50,000 over last year’s amount and our staff came through in such a big way in support of people in need across our region.”

The final campaign tally was unveiled today during a United Way staff campaign closing ceremony held at the York Region Administrative Centre.

Since 1999, the Region has raised more than $1.6 million for the United Way of York Region.

“I feel truly blessed to have worked with York Region and York Regional Police and want to congratulate their staff and volunteers for such a successful employee campaign,” said United Way of York Region CEO Daniele Zanotti.  “On behalf of the more than one in three people and 100 community programs and agencies that rely on this financial support, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

Fundraising initiatives during the 2010 staff campaign included a campaign kick-off barbecue, an online silent auction and a 3-Pitch Baseball Tournament which all helped to raise awareness and excitement. However, the majority of the funds raised were through payroll deduction plans.

The Annual Crafts and Gift sale will be held on Thursday, November 18 at the York Region Administrative Centre with proceeds of vendor table sales also benefitting the United Way of York Region.
