The Regional Municipality of York celebrates National Public Works Week with Free Family Fun Day

Open House part of National Public Works Week, May 16 th to 22 nd
NEWMARKET – The Regional Municipality of York is celebrating the start of National Public Works Week with a Free Family Fun Day Open House on Saturday, May 15th at our Bales Drive Operations Centre in the Town of East Gwillimbury.
WHEN: Saturday, May 15th
  10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
WHERE: York Region Bales Drive Operations Centre
  90 Bales Drive East, Town of East Gwillimbury
  (Near the intersection of Davis Drive and Woodbine Avenue)
The National Public Works Week Family Fun Day Open House will feature a number of activities and informative displays for the whole family. Visitors can:
• Vote for their favourite snow plow, painted by York Region Grade 5 students
• Participate in our “Name the Tree Mascot” contest
• Visit the operations garage and maintenance facility
• See a CPR demonstration with a paramedic
• Climb aboard a “pumper” rescue truck and meet a firefighter
• See our new “Argo” vehicle
• Hop in great big trucks, maintenance vehicles, a fully-stocked ambulance, pumper fire truck and Police Save-a-Life vehicle
• Ride on a YRT/Viva bus to our waste management facility and Viva bus maintenance facility
• Look like an astronaut when you try on the confined space entry equipment
• Meet our mascots Pylon Pete, Parry the Paramedic and Toby the mini bus
• Get their face painted
The Family Fun Day Open House will also feature a charity barbecue to raise funds for Blue Door Shelters.  Free bags of garden mulch are available for the first 100 visiting families.
