Government partnership and private sector donation yield sustainable outcome
NEWMARKET – Officials from The Regional Municipality of York, the Town of Newmarket and Canada Building Materials of Newmarket will officially open a new walking and cycling underpass that runs beneath Mulock Drive in Newmarket, adjacent to the Town’s municipal offices. The underpass links Newmarket’s southern neighbourhoods directly to Fairy Lake Park in the centre of Newmarket via the Tom Taylor Trail.
The passageway beneath Mulock Drive has enabled the Town of Newmarket to extend the Tom Taylor Trail to Paul Semple Park and eventually to connect with the Nokiidaa Trail that will be extended north from the Town of Aurora.
Perhaps the most appealing benefit will be to residents in Newmarket’s southern neighbourhoods that can now easily access the Tom Taylor Trail system around Fairy Lake Park.
• York Region Chairman and CEO Bill Fisch
• Town of Newmarket Mayor Tony Van Bynen
• Canada Building Materials Vice-President and General Manager John Vanderpas
• Former Town of Newmarket Mayor Tom Taylor
• Town of Newmarket Councillor Victor Woodhouse, Chair of the River and Trails Committee
