King Road from Jane Street to Weston Road to close for weekend construction on Highway 400 interchange

Closure will be in effect for both road and interchange from Friday to Monday

NEWMARKET – King Road from Jane Street to Weston Road in the Township of King will be closed this weekend to allow the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) to carry out construction work on the Highway 400 interchange at King Road.

Full closure of both the road and interchange will take place as of 10 p.m. on Friday, November 13th and will re-open at 6:30 a.m. on Monday, November 16th.

Local access will be maintained for residents in the affected area.

The Regional Municipality of York will be assisting the construction efforts by adjusting traffic signals in the vicinity to help accommodate traffic.  Electronic signs will be on display in the area to alert motorists to the closure and York Regional Police will be on site to help re-direct traffic.

Motorists who wish to access Highway 400 are advised to take alternate routes including Lloydtown-Aurora Road or the new Teston Road interchange at Highway 400.

The MTO is in the process of reconstructing the interchange at Highway 400 and King Road, which includes ramp relocations, bridge replacement and the relocation of a commuter parking facility.  The work taking place this weekend will allow for full use of the interchange over the winter months and prepare it for further work in spring 2010.

York Region thanks motorists for their patience as construction work continues.
