York Region to provide matching funds for manufacturing competitiveness strategy
NEWMARKET – The Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, and York Region Chairman and CEO Bill Fisch announced a $31,500 Invest Canada-Community Initiatives (ICCI) grant to promote business development and investment in The Regional Municipality of York.
The ICCI funding will be utilized to implement a manufacturing sector business competitiveness program in the Region commencing this month.
“This announcement is good news for the residents of York Region,” said Chairman Fisch. “This funding will enhance our capability to attract more investment in our regional economy.”
For the manufacturing sector, York Region will conduct over 300 interviews and develop a SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) to inform corporations of the benefits in strengthening their investment in manufacturing facilities in the Region.
To make the funding initiative a catalyst for future investments, all nine municipalities, regional, provincial and federal government agencies will work together to learn more about one another's strategies for drawing investment.
Launched in 1998, Invest Canada-Community Initiatives (ICCI) focuses on helping Canadian communities attract, retain and expand foreign direct investment. ICCI supports non-profit and public-private partnerships at the local community level.
