WHERE:            The Regional Municipality of York Administrative Centre

Seminar Room

17250 Yonge Street, Town of Newmarket

TIME:               7 p.m.

WHEN:              Tuesday, January 20th; The Waterfront: The residents of Highland Park, Michigan, are facing a menacing water crisis. The community is located next to one of the largest bodies of fresh water in the world, but almost a century after Henry Ford built a landmark water plant, Highland Park is nearing total financial collapse. Citizens are finding themselves without access to affordable public services like water, are receiving water bills as high as $10,000 and others getting their water cut off entirely for late payments.

Thursday, February 19th; Addicted to Plastic:  From morning until night, we are surrounded by plastic yet we give little thought to where it all goes once it has served its purpose.  Maritime researchers are tracking, counting and scooping a shocking amount of plastic from the most isolated regions of the sea, with no end of the plastic deluge in sight.  Addicted to Plastic looks at plastic through the years and provides insight on what can and must be done.

Thursday, March 19th; Garbage!  The Revolution Starts at Home:  After reducing, reusing and recycling, how much garbage is actually left over?  Garbage! The Revolution Starts at Home chronicles one average, urban family either keeping or weighing and recording every scrap of garbage it produces for three months.  Whether it is plastic bags or air pollution created by the family vehicles, the family discovers that every action carries a reaction affecting them and the entire planet.

The Regional Municipality of York Administrative Centre is located at 17250 Yonge Street in the Town of Newmarket and is easily accessible by public transit, including Viva and YRT.
