Union members reject tentative contract agreement from Veolia Transportation Inc.
All Viva services will be discontinued for the duration of the strike.
Veolia Transportation Inc. is under contract to The Regional Municipality of York to provide Viva bus rapid transit service. Veolia operators represented by ATU Local 113 have decided to strike, beginning tomorrow morning, after a tentative contract offer was rejected earlier this evening.
Residents are advised to use the York Region Transit (YRT)/Viva website and Customer Service Centre to stay informed about this situation and plan ahead.
Viva riders are advised to seek YRT services or arrange alternate modes of transportation, such as carpooling. Smart Commute offers a carpool matching service at www.carpoolzone.ca
YRT will continue to operate all other services under the current schedules.
YRT/Viva Transit Inspectors and Customer Information Representatives will be available at busy locations throughout York Region to assist customers and provide trip planning guidance. Additional staff will be on duty at the YRT/Viva Customer Service Centre to assist callers, and hours will be extended as needed throughout the strike period.
