According to the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (2004), the Town of Richmond Hill and the City of Vaughan account for 41 per cent of all live birth rates in York Region.
To help meet these growing needs, in December 2007 the Healthy Beginnings Centre opened its doors to provide parents-to-be and new parents some of the support and tools they need to transition in parenthood.
As the Centre’s popularity grew, a need for support beyond the first few months was identified.  The appointment-based centre now offers support and services to parents-to-be and parents with children up to six years of age.
The community-based Centre provides services to the growing population in the southwest area of the Region, increases the number of one-to-one interactions between public health nurses and new parents/caregivers and identifies the families who need immediate support sooner.
To book an appointment at the Healthy Beginnings Centre, or for more information on any other health-related topic, please contact York Region Health Connection at 1-800-361-5653.
