The Regional Municipality of York launches staff campaign
in support of the 2008 United Way of York Region

Employee campaign goal to raise $225,000
NEWMARKET –The Regional Municipality of York and York Regional Police Services launched the 2008 staff campaign in support of the United Way of York Region, and has established a campaign fundraising goal of $225,000 for the United Way.
“York Region employees continue to rise to the occasion and give generously to the United Way,” said York Region Chairman and CEO Bill Fisch.  “I am confident this great tradition will continue and the 2008 employee campaign will be the best and most successful one to date.”
York Region employees raised more than $202,000 during the 2007 employee campaign and won two prestigious awards for our efforts.  York Region was awarded the Community Fund Spirit Award for raising the most donations for the United Way of York Region Community Fund and the Employee Campaign Spirit Award for exceeding our campaign goal.
“We greatly appreciate the contribution by York Regional staff and York Regional Police in raising funds and awareness for the United Way and our more than 100 programs and agencies,” said Daniele Zanotti, Chief Executive Officer of the United Way of York Region.  “I look forward to working closely with the York Region staff campaign team as we achieve our 2008 campaign goal.”
York Region staff are encouraged to give to the United Way through payroll donation and by participating in many fundraising events.  This year’s staff fundraising events include:
• A Three-pitch Baseball Tournament, being held September 19th
• Ubid2Give, an online silent auction for Regional employees, featuring everything from clothing items to jewellery
• The 14th Annual United Way Craft & Gift Sale, a public event being held on Thursday, November 27th at the York Region Administrative Centre
“The annual United Way staff campaign has become an integral part of our corporate culture,” said Bruce Macgregor, York Region Chief Administrative Officer.   “Our employees are proud of their campaign and the difference it makes in the quality of lives of others in the wider community.”
“The staff campaign kick-off event in support of the United Way of York Region always generates plenty of momentum and excitement,” said York Regional Police Chief Armand La Barge.  “This campaign allows an additional opportunity to give back to the community and further enhance York Region as an excellent place to live and raise a family.”
York Region is again supporting the United Way’s Loaned Representative Program this year by providing an employee for 16 weeks to assist with the 2008 campaign.
