Complimentary transit also provided for families of deceased veterans
NEWMARKET – The Regional Municipality of York is offering complimentary YRT/Viva service to veterans and immediate family members of deceased veterans on Remembrance Day, Tuesday, November 11th. Complimentary Mobility Plus rides will also be offered to registered Mobility Plus riders.
Veterans and one companion, as well as immediate family members of deceased veterans, may travel all day, system-wide without charge.
Veterans can identify themselves to YRT/Viva drivers and fare inspectors by showing any of the following items: uniforms, medals, berets and blazers. Immediate family members of deceased veterans may identify themselves with documents, including an identification card or service papers.
All YRT/Viva passengers will experience a two-minute “wave of silence” while travelling on November 11th. During this observance, all YRT/Viva vehicles will stop at the nearest safe intersection for a moment of reflection.
YRT/Viva offers local and rapid transit services throughout all nine municipalities in York Region. More than 80 routes keep residents connected within York Region, as well as with connecting services in the City of Toronto and the Region of Peel. More than 18.2 million riders used YRT/Viva services in 2007, with nearly 73,000 trips made on average each weekday.
