Two lanes re-open on Langstaff Road in the City of Vaughan
Lane shifts and new signs on roadway allow two-way travel to resume
NEWMARKET – The Regional Municipality of York has re-opened two lanes of Langstaff Road between Dufferin Street and Highway 7 in the City of Vaughan.
Ground settlement associated with tunnelling operations of the Bathurst Collector and Langstaff Trunk Sewer project prompted a full closure of the roadway on May 2nd.
Following the settlement, York Region and our tunneling contractor immediately started investigating the surrounding soil to assess the stability of the area. Based on the results of the tests and expert geotechnical advice, Regional staff have confirmed that a portion of Langstaff Road is safe to re-open.
Effective this afternoon one eastbound and one westbound lane, as well as left turn lanes at intersections are open to traffic. These traffic lanes will remain in effect for the duration of the tunnel construction, estimated to be one year.
York Region would like to thank residents and motorists for their ongoing patience as work continues in the area.
