YRT/Viva adjusts service to address TTC strike

Residents advised to plan ahead; utilize YRT/Viva website and Customer Service Centre
NEWMARKET The Regional Municipality of York advises residents that York Region Transit (YRT)/Viva services are being adjusted due to the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) strike that began today.  Residents are advised to use the YRT/Viva website and Customer Service Centre to stay informed and plan ahead.
The 14 contracted TTC routes operating in York Region north of Steeles Avenue will not be in service during the strike.  Residents using these routes are advised to arrange alternate modes of transportation, such as carpooling.  Smart Commute offers a carpool matching service at www.carpoolzone.ca
YRT/Viva will continue to operate all other services under the current schedules, as well as:
Add extra buses to GO Shuttle routes during the morning and afternoon rush hours
Divert all Express services to the nearest GO Station
Adjust service throughout the strike period in response to demand, where possible
Pick up and drop off passengers at temporary on-street stops outside TTC bus terminals
Richmond Hill Centre Terminal is now directly connected with Langstaff GO Station via the new Langstaff pedestrian bridge.  Customers are encouraged to use this convenient GO connection by riding Viva blue, purple, pink, YRT Routes 1, 83, 87 or 99 to Richmond Hill Centre Terminal.  Staircases provide access on both sides of the bridge, with elevators in-service soon.
YRT Mobility Plus service will continue to operate normally to four transfer locations along Steeles Avenue.  TTC Wheel Trans service will provide as much service as possible, with priority given to dialysis and medical emergency trips.  Mobility Plus transferring passengers will be asked to contact Wheel Trans directly to confirm ride details.
YRT/Viva Transit Inspectors and Customer Information Representatives will be available at busy locations throughout York Region to assist customers and provide trip planning guidance.  Additional staff will be on duty at the YRT/Viva Customer Service Centre to assist callers, and hours will be extended as needed throughout the strike period.
For more information, please visit the YRT/Viva website at www.yrt.ca, or call the Customer Service Centre at 1-866-MOVE-YRT (668-3978).
