Funds to pay for the cost of this lunch event were generously donated by the York Region EMS paramedic volleyball team.
Paramedic for a Day – On Wednesday, May 23rd, York Region EMS paramedics are granting an important wish.  One child from the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada will become a paramedic for the day.  The
10-year old boy will be outfitted with his own uniform and will travel with paramedics in their response vehicle to tour EMS stations and facilities.  He will also learn life saving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid techniques.
In Case of Emergency (ICE) – During each of the public events celebrating EMS Week 2007, York Region EMS paramedics are distributing ICE cards and encouraging residents to participate in this important initiative. This program helps first responders obtain crucial medical information about unresponsive accident victims. The program encourages residents to input “ICE” followed by an emergency contact’s name and phone number into their mobile phone directory.  On scene paramedics can scroll the mobile directory and immediately determine the ICE contact.  This program was initiated in England in 2005 and has been very successful throughout Europe and in various areas of North America.
Separate media advisories will be circulated providing additional details to the media about each of the events..
