Public consultation events to be held on April 10, 12 and 14th to discuss Durham / York Waste Study and proposed facility sites

NEWMARKET As a part of the Durham/York Residual Waste Environmental Assessment Study being conducted by Durham and York Regions, three public consultation events will take place in York Region on Tuesday, April 10th and Durham Region on Thursday, April 12th and 14th, to discuss five potential sites (one in York and four in Durham) recommended for a proposed thermal treatment facility to manage both Regions' waste.

The five sites were recommended and approved for public consultation at Durham and York Regional Councils on March 28th and 29th, respectively.

The proposed site in York Region is located in the Town of East Gwillimbury on York Region-owned land, 2.6 kilometres away from Davis Drive and Highway 404.  The four proposed sites in Durham Region are located in the Municipality of Clarington.

Following public consultation, further studies will be conducted on all five potential sites throughout the spring and summer and a preferred site will be recommended to York and Durham Councils in Fall 2007.
