Closures to accommodate parade of officers, family vehicles, motorcycles and hearse
NEWMARKET – The Regional Municipality of York will work with York Regional Police Services to close a section of Yonge Street in the Town of Newmarket tomorrow to accommodate the funeral procession of York Regional Police Detective Constable Robert Plunkett.
All access to Yonge Street between Eagle Street and Davis Drive will be closed completely from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Furthermore, there will be lane restrictions on Yonge Street between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. with one lane remaining open in either direction to facilitate funeral arrangements.
Members of the public will not have access to the funeral which is taking place at Ray Twinney Recreation Complex, but are invited to stand on the lawn of the Complex and listen to an audio broadcast of the service. Citizens are also encouraged to show their support by observing the funeral procession as it travels northbound on Yonge Street from Eagle Street West at approximately 12:30 p.m.
Motorists and Town of Newmarket residents in the area are asked to avoid Yonge Street in these areas and plan alternate routes to avoid delays and unexpected detours.
York Regional Police will be on site directing vehicles at nearby intersections, ensuring the roads are secure and vehicles are aware of detours.
