Families are invited to participate in Pedestrian Safety Awareness Day
NEWMARKET – Operation Cross Smart invites you to a free, fun-filled event for families on Saturday, June 17, 2006, at the Community Safety Village of York Region.
Learn about pedestrian safety by participating in a scavenger hunt through the streets of the miniature village. Admission and parking are free.
WHEN: Saturday, June 17, 2006
10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (rain or shine)
WHAT: An opportunity to learn pedestrian and summer safety messages, through interactive displays and a scavenger hunt with prizes for the children. A BBQ lunch and other refreshments will also be available at a nominal charge.

The Community Safety Village of York Region is an interactive miniature village where children can learn and experience valuable life saving lessons about staying safe in their communities.
In 2005, eight pedestrians were killed and 253 were injured in collisions in York Region. The Operation Cross Smart pedestrian safety campaign aims to reduce the number of pedestrian collisions. The event is a collaborative effort of York Regional Police, York Region Health Services, York Region Transportation and Works department, the Community Safety Village of York Region and the York Region Save-a-Life program.
