Woodbine Avenue closed between Davis Drive and Green Lane

Hydro One working to repair damaged hydro lines

NEWMARKET – As a result of a severe thunderstorm that travelled through York Region last night, Woodbine Avenue is closed between Davis Drive and Green Lane in the Towns of Newmarket and East Gwillimbury.

Hydro One officials are working to repair a line that has come down across the road on Woodbine Avenue.  According to Hydro One, the damaged line is the primary cause for the significant power outage being experienced across northern York Region.  Hydro One officials estimate that it will take between three to five days for repairs to be completed to all hydro lines damaged during last night’s storm.

Drivers and residents are asked to stay away from the area being repaired and to use alternative routes when travelling in the Towns of Newmarket and East Gwillimbury.

Additionally, York Region Roads staff continue to work across the Region, completing tree clean-ups and awaiting power restoration to Regional intersection signals.

Drivers are reminded that if they encounter intersection signals that are flashing or without power to treat the intersections as a four-way stop.
