York Region launches enhanced Online Business Directory

Businesses get free listing and ability to update information

NEWMARKET York Region today launched a new and enhanced Online Business Directory to support local businesses and improve consumer access to business products and services within York Region.

"Regional Council recognizes the importance of information sharing and communicating the products and services of local businesses," said Regional Chair and CEO Bill Fisch.  "For entrepreneurs across York Region, technological tools that enable businesses to reach their customers are vital to innovation, competitiveness and, ultimately, prosperity."

To improve the online experience for businesses and consumers alike, the newly-improved directory features expanded search capabilities, self-initiated business updates and enhanced site features.  York Region businesses can take advantage of free, York Region-sponsored listings and the ability to update their business information at any time.

"Our Online Business Directory provides an up-to-date inventory of businesses and employment by sector in York Region," said the Region's Planning and Economic Development Committee Chair James Young, Mayor of the Town of East Gwillimbury.  "Keeping track of changes in our economy allows the Region to better plan its needs for transportation and services, and to provide for a variety of jobs."

York Region businesses and consumers can find local products and services using the online business directory.  Users can search the directory either by a complete or partial company name, a product or a service, a city, town or community location or an industry category.

Many of York Region's businesses use Web sites to provide consumers with quick and convenient product and service information and improved customer service.  York Region's Online Business Directory provides consumers with convenient access to this existing online marketplace, giving the public increased access to information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Online Business Directory benefits the local economy in other ways.  The statistics gathered from the business entries also inform planning and economic development decision-makers about opportunities for investment in the Region's economy.

Business owners can also purchase an affordable enhanced listing to increase their visibility and serve their customers better.
