NEWMARKET – The Regional Municipality of York is partnering with Tim Hortons on the promotion of an anti-litter campaign.
The partnership builds upon the relationship that the Region has developed with the private sector in raising awareness of litter prevention, including such previous sponsors as Home Depot and The Clorox Company of Canada, Ltd.
The campaign commenced the week of April 17th and will run until Sunday, May 28th. It consists of anti-litter promotional advertising in local newspapers as well as public service announcements on LCD in-store displays in all Tim Hortons restaurants.
York Region, with its anti-litter slogan "Keep York Region Clean and Green", has been active on anti-litter promotion over the past several years including the spearheading of several successful litter collection events, including the 2005 School Litter Roundup. The 2005 Roundup event included over 9,500 school children from 63 schools, and contributed to the collection of over 900 bags of litter from school and surrounding properties. The 2006 School Litter Roundup event will take place this fall.
Tim Hortons has been involved with past litter initiatives in the Region, including sponsorship of the Region's litter events and donating garbage bags and other items to assist with local municipal litter pickup events. The formal partnership with Tim Hortons over the next several weeks builds upon existing anti-litter efforts.
