York Region invites proposals to address needs of homeless this winter 2005-06

NEWMARKET The Regional Municipality of York invites agencies serving the homeless, or those at risk of becoming homeless, to apply for Winter Needs project funding to a maximum of $8,000 per proposal.
Successful projects will be funded under York Region's Community Development and Investment Fund (CDIF) strategy.
The objective is to assist people who are homeless or potentially homeless in meeting their needs during the coming winter.  Items funded must be consistent with the overall Community Plan to Address Homelessness.  The plan can be viewed on York Region's Web site at
Winter Needs projects could include, but are not limited to items such as:
 Sleeping bags or other supplies
 Furniture and appliances (e.g. beds and freezers) for shelter providers and organizations providing services to the homeless
 Other items that directly impact on the improvement of services to the homeless over the coming winter months
