York Region to host meeting for community agencies seeking 2006 funding

CDIF helped 30,000 York Region residents in 2005

NEWMARKET York Region will hold an information session for community service agencies interested in submitting proposals for 2006 under the Region's Community Development and Investment Fund (CDIF) strategy.

"This year, 21 community projects across York Region received $1.3 million from the CDIF," said Regional Chair and CEO Bill Fisch.  "More than 30,000 residents of York Region benefited from this investment."

Examples of 2005 projects, which for the most part are completed, include:

School Nutrition Program, York Region Food for Learning
The program provided daily breakfasts/snacks and emergency lunch programs to more than 5,000 school children from 22 schools across York Region.

Focus on Fathers Program, Catholic Community Services of York Region
More than 100 fathers enhanced their parenting skills, family relations and interpersonal skills through workshops conducted across York Region.  Approximately half of the workshops were presented in Chinese, Korean, Tamil and Farsi.

Housing Outreach Worker for Rose of Sharon Services for Young Mothers
The outreach worker assisted more than 300 young parents to secure affordable housing and receive emergency supplies and support services.

Proposals are now being solicited for 2006.  To be eligible, projects must deliver services to vulnerable residents in York Region in one or more of four priority funding areas: Employment Supports; Family and Children's Services; Homelessness Programs; and Sustainability and Capacity Building for Agencies.

The information meeting will be held on Friday, September 9th at 1:30 p.m. in the Seminar Room of the York Region Administrative Centre at 17250 Yonge Street (north of Mulock Drive) in Newmarket.

The deadline for proposals to the CDIF Purchase of Service Request is Thursday, September 29th at 1:00 p.m.
