BACKGROUND:

• This unique partnership reflects the commitment to community support and development by York Region Emergency Medical Services, Markham Fire and Emergency Services, and York Regional Police.

• For over 150 years, the YMCA throughout Canada has been helping people maintain good health by supporting healthy lifestyle choices and encouraging them to be part of their community.  When people think of the YMCA, they often think sports, swimming, or a place to exercise.  The YMCA does more! For example, in 2003 over 41,000 young people turned to the YMCA for help because they could not read, required shelter, or were having problems with drugs, alcohol or gambling.  The “Y” helped them to change their lives.
