NEWMARKET –Operation Cross Smart invites you to a free, fun-filled event for families on Saturday, September 3rd, 2005, at the new Community Safety Village of York Region.
Enjoy the 1km Family Fun Run/Walk through the streets of the miniature village, learn about pedestrian safety, visit interactive displays and enjoy walking through the Community Safety Village. Meet the event’s honourary chair Chantel Petitclerc, winner of eleven Paralympic medals and the holder of two world records. Admission and parking are free.

The Community Safety Village of York Region is an interactive miniature village where children can learn and experience valuable life saving lessons about staying safe in their communities.
The Operation Cross Smart pedestrian safety campaign aims to reduce the number of pedestrian collisions. In 2004, 9 pedestrians were killed and 243 were injured in collisions in York Region. The event is a collaborative effort of York Regional Police, York Region Health Services, heartyparty .com the York Region Heart Health Network, the Community Safety Village of York Region, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and the York Region Save-a-Life program.
