"Like our strategic plan, Towards the Vision was also developed through extensive consultation across the Region," said Regional Chair and CEO Bill Fisch. "This reflects Councilís commitment to report back regularly on the implementation of Vision 2026."
Vision 2026 is a road map for the next quarter century. It includes long-range plans that promote quality of life for York Region, including increased efforts in transit; protecting our natural environment; a greater emphasis on affordable housing; and a commitment to continue to improve water supply and deliver high quality drinking water for everyone across the Region.
"Towards Vision shows where we have been successful in achieving our goals, and the areas we must work harder to further our progress," said Markham Regional Councillor Frank Scarpitti.
Successes and initiatives that have already emerged in response to Vision 2026, include:
The formation of the Regionís first Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) was an initiative that came out of Vision 2026 consultations. "When I proposed YAC two years ago, Regional Council saw merit in creating an outlet for young people to help shape the outlook of the Region for residents and their children," said Matthew Cloutier, Chair of the Regionís YAC.
"Hereís our chance to evaluate how the Region is doing in its efforts to meet the needs of residents, including youth," adds Pesha Goodman, Newmarket YAC member and YAC representation for Vision 2026.
