Newmarket Health Centre hosts opening celebration

NEWMARKET - The Regional Municipality of York today officially opened the redevelopment of the Newmarket Health Centre long term care facility, with extensive renovations to the original facility.

"The Newmarket Health Centre has gone through many changes since it was first conceived of by the County of York in 1954," said Bill Fisch, Regional Chair and CEO. "But one thing has remained constant the legacy of service excellence offered to our clients."

"We are here because we are a caring community," commented Regional Councillor Joyce Frustaglio, Chair of the Health and Emergency Medical Services Committee. "Our clients are mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers with families who want the very best care possible for their loved ones. The redevelopment of Newmarket Health Centre shows our commitment to offering that, and more."

"Our long term care centres are dedicated to promoting the health, well-being and independence of our clients," added Dr. Helena Jaczek, Commissioner of Health Services and Medical Officer of Health. "The renovations at the Newmarket Health Centre will greatly improve the residents' living environment and enable staff to deliver an enhanced level of care and services."

The Newmarket Health Centre's renovations are designed to meet the needs of long term care clients eighteen years of age or older who are no longer able to live independently in their own homes and who require complex medical nursing and/or psychiatric care.

Construction has been planned in four phases to renovate and redevelop the existing facility, originally opened as Greenacres Home for the Aged. An in-depth overview of the Newmarket Health Centre redevelopment phases, construction components and history is attached.

Newmarket Health Centre is a not-for-profit facility funded by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care* and York Region, and operated by York Region Health Services.
